COVID Vaccination Status and/or Testing Verification Requirements

All NorCal FTC Tournaments that involve any in-person activities require all attendees to be able to show verification of vaccination status or negative COVID test results

Each attendee (team or volunteer) must be able to show:

  • Fully Vaccinated Status (see CDPH definitions below)
  • Proof of Negative COVID test (see acceptable testing below)
  • Proof of  COVID diagnosis within past 90 days (positive test results documented like below or a note from a health care professional), completion of isolation/quarantine, and asymptomatic

Currently, these verification steps are managed by the team coaches and verified to each tournament attended with the form distributed to the coaches.  Negative test status must be verified on-site.

It is possible (likely?) that verification will need to take place in-person at the entrance to each event in the later portions of the season.

CDPH Fully Vaccinated Status

Per the California Department of Public Health (based on CDC guidance) an individual is considered fully vaccinated when they are 2 weeks or more since the final dose of the vaccine used

  • For Phizer and Moderna – two weeks following the 2nd administered dose
  • For Johnson & Johnson (Jannsen) – two weeks following the single dose

Acceptable Proof of Vaccination Status (paraphrased from CDPH Guidance)

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (issued by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control & Prevention or WHO Yellow Card1) which includes name of person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided and date doses administered); OR
  • A photo of a vaccination card as a separate document; OR
  • A photo of the client’s vaccine card stored on a phone or electronic device; OR
  • Documentation of vaccination from a healthcare provider; OR
  • Digital record that includes a QR code that when scanned by a SMART Health Card reader displays to the reader client name, date of birth, vaccine dates and vaccine type; OR
  • Documentation of vaccination from other contracted employers who follow these vaccination records guidelines and standards.

Acceptable Testing Verification

  • Molecular Test (i.e. PCR) within 72 hours
  • Antigen Test within 24 hours

The information below is drawn from the “Updated COVID Testing Guidance”  referenced below. Note that to qualify, the testing must be done at a “Point of Care”, i.e. not a home test.

Who should receive Pre-entry Testing?

Unvaccinated Individuals

Individuals should have pre-entry testing performed if they have not been fully vaccinated and will be taking part in activities that put them or others at higher risk for COVID-19 exposure. In addition to settings where pre-entry testing is required, it should be considered for those attending large indoor social or mass gatherings (such as large private events, live performance events, sporting events, theme parks, etc.), high-risk sport competitions, or other events in crowded or poorly ventilated settings.

Fully Vaccinated Individuals

Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to undergo pre-entry testing.

What types of tests can be used for pre-entry testing and when should they be performed?

CDPH recommends a point of care test (antigen or molecular) within 24 hours of entry for asymptomatic individuals. If point of care testing is not available, molecular testing of asymptomatic individuals within 72 hours of the event with results available before entry is recommended. In settings where testing is required by a State Public Health Order, either an antigen or molecular test is acceptable.

What can be used as proof of a negative pre-entry test in settings where pre-entry testing is required?

The following are acceptable as proof of a negative COVID-19 test result:

  • A printed document from the test provider or laboratory, OR
  • An electronic test result displayed on a phone or other device from the test provider or laboratory.
    • The information should include person’s name, type of test performed, and negative test result.
