2022-2023 NorCal Regional Championship Details

March 4-5, 2023

Location Information

The championship will be at Kathleen MacDonald High School at 3588 Zanker Rd, San Jose. The main entrance requires you to drive down past the high school to the middle school then back to the front drive or parking near the front. All parking is in front along Zanker Rd both in front of the buildings and in front of the track/football stadium. Do NOT park along the front drive – this is just for loading and unloading.

Buildings

The competition and the pits are in the same building, labeled the Athletics Center. Walk past the main entrance and further down on the left will be the Team Check-in under an overhang or perhaps just inside. When your team arrives, please go to Team Check-in before entering the pits. This is for both Saturday and Sunday arrivals. Teams that are judging and inspecting on Saturday will still check in on Sunday to receive their team packets.

Judging General Info

Teams should bring a print out of their Engineering Portfolio to leave with the judges during their interview (they will be returned at the end of the day Sunday). Optional things to bring include Control Award application and Judges Feedback form. Teams will have about 15-20 minutes with their judges and can use the first 5 minutes for a presentation followed by judge Q&A.

Saturday Judging/Inspections

As much as possible, we have scheduled teams into their preferred time slots. Some teams who requested the later slots may have been scheduled slightly earlier because there weren’t enough later slots. Thank you for making this work!

Team judging schedule has been posted on our website here. You may check in 15-20 minutes ahead of your team’s judging time. The expectation is that you will put your things in the pit area then proceed directly to judging. Your room assignments will be given when you get there. Immediately following your judging session, you will need to go to inspections. You can do either field or robot inspections in any order. Your inspection slot is roughly 30 minutes, so you need to come prepared. Be sure to pre-inspect your robot and bring your forms with you.

Sunday Judging/Inspections

Teams that are judging on Sunday morning need to be inspected before their judging slot at 8:30am.

Entry hours

For any team that has not yet passed inspection, the pits will open at 7:30a on Sunday. These will be the Sunday judging teams and any Saturday night team that might have had issues. All other teams may come anytime 7:45am to 8:30am. We expect all teams to be in the building by 8:30am.

Pit Spaces

Each team will have an 8ft table and the space in front of it. Please be respectful of the teams around you. Electrical access will be available close to your table but you should bring your own power strip if you plan to plug in multiple items.

Practice fields

There will be two practice fields. Please always show your Gracious Professionalism in and around the field. If teams are waiting, please share the times. We know that this is the championship and adrenaline will be high so it might require extra attention to this detail. The practice fields will be closed on Saturday. Only teams who are fully inspected may be on the fields in the morning on Sunday.

Lunch and Food

NO FOOD will be allowed in the gym or in the pits. You will need to plan to store it somewhere else. Next to the gym/pits, there is a covered walkway. There are several places around the quad and we have access to the cafeteria for the day. Only contained water bottles are allowed in either the stands or in the pits. PLEASE help us enforce this. The high school is brand new and we want to respect their wishes to keep it clean.

We will have a scheduled lunch break from 12:15 to 12:45p. Some teams may have a longer break depending on the match schedule released Sunday morning.

There will be no concession stand on site.

 Safety glasses

As always, safety glasses must be worn at all times in the pits – once you cross through the door, they need to be worn. They are also required around the competition field. Please be sure to bring enough safety glasses for all coaches, parents or others who may be with your team and want to visit the pits. No loaner safety glasses will be available.

Masks

Masks are not being required but with the crowded spaces are recommended.

Weather

The early forecast is for rain. The pits and competition fields are directly adjacent and in the same building. You will need to travel outside for judging and to go to the cafeteria for lunch.
